Data Protection

This practice is registered under the Data Protection Act 1998. All registered patients’ details are held on the computerised clinical system as well as manual records. Identifiable patient information will only be shared within the practice team and, in the case of referral, to the clinician to whom the patient is referred.

Disclosure of identifiable patient information to any other outside agencies will only be done after receiving written permission from the patient. Under the terms of the act you have right of access to data held under the Act.

Occasionally data held on the computer may be used for research and audit purposes. Should you not wish your details to be used for such purposes, would you please inform the receptionist.

If you have any further concerns or complaints about data protection, please contact the Practice Manager, John Fraser, in person or write to or telephone him on (01923) 776295.

ACCESS TO MEDICAL RECORDS
The two acts which cover access are the Data Protection Act 1998 and the Access to Health Records Act 1990 which deals with access to manually held records. Patients wishing to see their medical records are requested to apply in writing. A charge of £10 may be payable for access.
